Let’s play… Kinetic Sand! (Review + Giveaway + Promo)

Product Review

You must have seen this video floating around the internet quite a lot last year. The Husband and I were so amazed with it but wondered if it will ever be available in Singapore. This has to be the coolest toy we have seen. Like EVER!

You know what? IT IS AVAILABLE IN SINGAPORE NOW! Pardon my excitement but yeah, I’m excited!! The Kinetic Sand is available in Singapore through the good folks of Pupsik Studio who also specializes in awesome baby and parenting products.

Pupsik Studio was very kind to provide us with the 1kg pack to review and we (namely Mummy and Daddy) couldn’t wait to rip off the packaging to play with the cool sand. Yes, Mummy and Daddy were way more excited than our child. Hahaha!

According to Pupsik Studio’s website,

“Sand play stimulates and develops children’s fine motor and creative playing skills. Kinetic Sand is the perfect material for open-ended, non-directed play. It leaves no sand or residue on your hands and is great for sensory therapy. Kinetic Sand is also great for kids with allergies – it is wheat, gluten and casein free and 100% safe and non-toxic.”

According to Mother of Xander,

If your kid loves the beach and you hate the sun, this might be a good compromise. He gets to play his sand, you get to lounge around in cool air-condition comfort in your house and with minimum cleanup afterwards. Win-win situation!

At first glance, the Kinetic Sand looks like any regular fine grained sand you might find on the beach or in stores. Even though clean-up is relatively easy, the sand can still get everywhere if your kiddo is the fidgety or active sort. We found a bit of sand in his hair, on the floor and under his feet but nothing a quick vacuum couldn’t solve.

Xander loves to play at the beach and with sand. but we haven’t been able to hang out at the beach very much last year because… I don’t know why actually. We just never got round to it for some reason. When I showed him the box, he thought “Oh how nice, sand in a box! Gimmegimmegimme! Open now!” We then showed him what the Kinetic Sand could REALLY do and that got Xander even more excited. He wasted no time and immediately attacked the sand completely ignoring us for a good hour and a half. I need to mention that Xander has sensitive skin and whenever he plays with regular play-dough or sand, he will always end up with some rashes somewhere on his face or hands. I am pleased to say he had none of those at the end of the day. Phew! If your little tike accidentally gets some in their eyes or even swallowed some, don’t panic. Just grab water to flush their eyes or drink some water. Easy peasy!

Naturally, Daddy got into the action with the little one and made some masterpieces of his own as well.

My verdict of Kinetic Sand is an honest and completely unbias BUY IT! Not only was it great for my 5 year old, even my 30 something year old was thoroughly entertained by it.

Wordless Wednesday: Never a dull moment

2013_turban2

Daddy was pumping air into the tires while the little one plays dress up with my shawl in the car.

There is never a dull moment with these boys. I wonder how much crazier it will be when the baby arrives next year.

Halloween Fun: The conniving lawyer and his evil zombie dentist son

Wa si lim lau peh. (trans. I am your father.)

As promised. Here they are.

The Husband promised he would dress up for Halloween and so he did. Not bad eh?

Notice the angry Evil Dr. Xan with his bowl of dismembered itchy fingers from naughty children. He was angry with me because I wanted him to bring the stethoscope since the outfit looked too generic for anybody to know he is a dentist. He refused and insisted people will know then looked at me like he wanted to say “Only you dumb dumb don’t know nia…” Ok lor… Xan was very insistent about wearing this garb because it really was from a dental clinic and he was super proud of it. It was given to him during a recent Be a Dentist Day at the National Dental Centre which I will tell you more in a future post. Since he was already upset, he started to whine about his eye makeup. “ONE BLACK EYE ONLY AH!” he insisted. I also dunno why only one side. He wanted the makeup, liked it, then whined about it and wanted to wipe it all off. All in 30mins. Sigh… I hate morning tantrums. I should just rename his character as the Psychotic Dentist who likes to cut off fingers for fun. Maybe then the costume and the food combination will make more sense eh?

Every Halloween morning, he will complain about his costume being too hot, too big, too long, too crazy, too something lah. EVERY HALLOWEEN! Then he would sulk (sometimes cry) all the way to school. By the time he sees his friends in equally ridiculous outfits at the main door, he would have this look that says “Heng ah, I’m not the only one like this today” then walks in with no further protests.

I was very determined not to buy candies for Xan’s school Halloween party this year. Last few times he will bring home a huge bag of candies, eat 2 or 3 pieces and abandon the rest for me to eat/dispose. Such a waste of money me thinks. So I sought help from my friends on Facebook for alternative suggestions. Some say make them do tricks, walk barefoot, give the kids homework, give walnuts, etc. I was like Harlow? I want them to like us, not murder us by pelting the walnuts at our faces leh!

During this time, I stumbled across this and when I showed Xan the pictures, he kept laughing and say “This will freak my friends out! Let’s do it! Must put blood!” Soon after, one kind friend share with me photos of her party food and I got inspired! Popcorn in gloves! Disgusting! PERFECT!

You touch some more lah. I cut off your fingers!
Zombie/Gout/Arthritic hands

It didn’t take much persuasion to get the boy to help me with the food prep. Hot dogs are his favourite snack and when there are extra bits lying around, he will help to dispose them into his belly. Other than popcorn, we used other munchies we found at Daiso for variety sake. Fingernails were M&Ms. Cute eh?

Aiyah, cut too much! Nair mind, I shall dispose it into my belly. See? Same size as his big toe!

I can’t wait to see him and hear his stories about the party plus the walkabout with his mates from school later today. Wonder if the PG (playgroup) kids will really ‘freak out’ like he said when they see the fingers. I hope they do. A few tears shed will be nice too. Mwahahaha!

Happy birthday old boy!

Dear Ah Lao,

Today is your birthday and I need to come clean … *whisper* I did not get you a present. I can just hear you guys gasping and exclaiming. “WHAT??? No present?? Wah lau!” Eh, you all don’t lydat leh. Don’t judge me leh… *sob*

For a guy who has everything, the last thing you need is another long sleeve shirt or bag. Your wardrobe very full ler lah. I’m not very creative in the gift giving department. The Triton is little out of my budget at the moment, honey. You just wait ohkay? You wait long long ok? *roll eyes*

I know the last few weeks haven’t been easy for you and I didn’t help to make you feel better. Sorry. Let’s go have a nice day out later. Do whatever, go wherever and yes, I will hold your hand all day as requested.

Happy birthday! Sweet dreams, I’ll see you later when you wake up!

Special father son moment with tiny “Tritons”.

My first letter to Xander

Hi Xander,

This is my 1st letter to you and I hope to continue this for as long as I can.

Everyone is looking forward to seeing you in December! We are all wondering how will you look like, who will you take after in terms of looks, temperament, talents, etc. I will be last to admit it but ya, I’m excited too.

Your Daddy has already told the world his version of how we first knew we are going to be parents in his blog. You will learn quickly during your growing years of your Daddy’s penchant for dramatizing stories and events fit for epic tv soaps. As exasperating they may be sometimes, they can be quite amusing as well. I am sure you will develop your own sense of humour.
