Let’s go see… Navy@Vivo
Have you ever been on board of a warship? No, a cruise ship with many noisy fighting children may seem like a warship to you but it is not. I’ve never been on one and never thought I would ever want to because I have Thalassophobia and Claustrophobia. I used to have nightmares being dragged into the sea by some unknown monster/s and getting trapped in tiny spaces. I’m so ma fan (troublesome) right? As parents, The Husband and I try to expose Xan to as many new experiences as possible because we are sadistic want to be advantageous for his sake. We don’t want him to cop out on an…

Saturday Social BBQ at Timbre @ Gillman
The Husband was invited to Timbre’s 1st Saturday Social BBQ last month. When he told me we were all going to Timbre for a BBQ dinner, I was like Har? Timbre? Isn’t Xan a bit young for the place? Do they even allow kids there? Did you misread the email or not? Well, it’s true. Timbre now hosts Saturday Social BBQ every 1st Saturday of the month. The event is geared at families with children and promises good food, good music and cool activities to entertain the little munchkins while you dig into your sirloin steak. Steak? Did someone say STEAK? Pardon my excitement. This hungry pregnant woman’s current constant craving is…

Let’s play with… Chalk!
I used to love playing with chalk when I was a kid. There was always some kind of chalk lying around the house back then. My mum used to sew all sorts of stuff. Clothes for my sisters when they were kids, mend her clothes, mend my clothes, make flags, etc. In her sewing kit you will always find triangular chalk meant for marking fabrics. I also made sure I had a nice supply of the white chalk my primary school teachers love to throw at us. I bought the chalks lah, not collected them from being thrown at lah. I was a good girl you know? Naturally, these all…

Let’s go… to the Megabugs Return! Exhibition (plus admission tickets giveaway!)
Have you ever imagined coming face to face with bugs that are big as you? You don’t need to imagine lah, just hop over to the Megabugs Return! Exhibition at the Science Centre for an up-close and personal look at the gigantic Aedes mosquito, ants, dung beetles and many more critters this week. I must admit I’m not a fan of the creepy crawlies but somehow when they are magnified to such mega proportions, they really aren’t too bad. This year the Science Centre Singapore presents Megabugs Return! Exhibition from the 20th of April to the 18th of August 2013. The first Megabugs Exhibition was held 20 years ago with 11…

Baking memories
I remember one particular morning when I was probably in K1 or K2, I woke up to the smell of pineapples simmering in a pot on the stove. I watched my mum and my Darjie (eldest sister) chatting, sweating, peeling and slicing countless pineapples in the kitchen. They spent the next few hours hovering over the huge pot, making sure the pineapple mixture doesn’t get burnt. looking back, it’s amazing how many pineapples you need for a few tubs of pineapple tarts. So what role did I play? I would popped in between television programmes to “help” make sure the pineapple paste was up to standard, maybe helped to roll…

Let’s make… DIY Yakult Cars
Last year, Pamela from Tan Family Chronicle shared on her blog how she made this very easy DIY car she fashioned out of empty Yakult bottles and plastic bottle caps. Eh I tell you ah, she is really very precise with the details man! You need to see how she made hers then you will know what I mean. I thought the cars looked really cute and easy to make but I always forget to save my Vitagen bottles. We were at Pamela’s place recently for a play date and she showed us the cars she made. Eh, very cute leh! Fast too! Xan was immediately hooked! Pamela said she…

Another year has passed and we haven’t killed each other!
22 November marked the day we signed our “til-death-do-us-part-your-money-is-my-money-and-my-money-is-my-money” contract: it was our 6th wedding anniversary. *applause please* For years The Husband insisted our anniversary should fall on 20 July when we held our customary wedding dinner and he said he (strangely, a few others also) thought a wedding is only formalized after the dinner. I said why would we go through the trouble to pick a nice date for the solemnization if the dinner date was going to be more important leh? We weren’t even planning for a wedding dinner back then because we thought sign contract can already, the dinner was such an extravagance and that we wanted no part of it. Luckily, we…

Let’s play… Vegetable stamping!
I had been thinking of doing some vegetable stamping with Xan for quite a long time because we have never done it before. Usually thinking of it after the vegetables end up either in our bellies or in the trash. I only cook We love eating Shanghai Greens and the stems are perfect for the art project. I managed to save all 3 this time and even struck a deal with the Little Man to finish every grain of food and we could do some art and craft after that. I think he barely looked up from his bowl and managed to finish his food in record time. He absolute…

Let’s play… Soccer Dinosaurs!
When Pam whipped out Soccer Dinosaurs from her bag, I thought to myself HA! Xan will surely like THIS! The dinosaurs look cute, rules are simple, game pace can be fast and most importantly, can use DIE! Not sure why the fascination with dice throwing but hey, whatever makes the kid happy right? Since we don’t have the habit of playing board games with the kid, he hasn’t grasp the concept of rules and waiting for turns. When we do play (board games, card games or whatever) I will admit we bend rules and alter game play just to make him happy or for the game to end very quickly so we can whisk…

Making time for family time
The Husband had been talking about going swimming with Xan for weeks, no, MONTHS! Somehow, plans always get shelved due to the weather lah, one of them fall sick lah, me predicting it would rain when it was blazing hot outside lah, the list of excuses goes on mile long. One night, the topic came up again and miraculously, we decided unanimously, we WILL go swimming the next morning. Yay! Boy, was Xan excited! I like to hang out at the public pools. You get to see all kinds. Big men in small scary Speedos, small men in big scary swim shorts, very conservative ladies, not so conservative women (these…
