Say Cheese Singapore! (Review)
Sponsored Review For as long as I can remember, my mum would always prepare my breakfast/lunch sandwiches in all sorts of weird and wonderful combinations that always include cheese. “Because cheese and milk are good for your bones!” my dear mother would drill into my head every morning. Decades later, she is still buying sliced cheese but this time she buys for my nephew who practically inhales them in seconds. Recently, the nice folks from SCS sent us some cheeses to try. At first I thought, SCS got cheese meh? I have always used SCS butter (salted and unsalted) for baking and cooking so SCS to me was synonymous with…

Let’s make… Hokkaido Chiffon Cakes!
Some weeks back I had the opportunity to learn how to make Hokkaido Chiffon Cakes with the bloggers from Singapore Mom Bloggers (SMB) from the nice ladies from Munch Ministry. The baking class (hosted and conducted by Munch Ministry) was one of the several activities lined up for SMB’s 1st birthday celebration this year. The first was a self makeover workshop where a bunch of us vainpots well deserving mummies got to learn how to take care of our skin and wear the right styles for our body shapes. Being the typical greedy girl, I wanted to find out what was a Hokkaido Chiffon cake and did it taste good…

Baking memories
I remember one particular morning when I was probably in K1 or K2, I woke up to the smell of pineapples simmering in a pot on the stove. I watched my mum and my Darjie (eldest sister) chatting, sweating, peeling and slicing countless pineapples in the kitchen. They spent the next few hours hovering over the huge pot, making sure the pineapple mixture doesn’t get burnt. looking back, it’s amazing how many pineapples you need for a few tubs of pineapple tarts. So what role did I play? I would popped in between television programmes to “help” make sure the pineapple paste was up to standard, maybe helped to roll…

Let’s make… Chocolate Crispies!
Over the weekend we popped over to a fellow mummy blogger’s home to pick up some shelves from her garage sale. While The Husband was dismantling the shelves, Xan and I decided to do a little more shopping. He almost immediately spotted the cookbook among the boxes of books and while flipping through it, he got excited and told me he wanted to make everything in the book. Since it was only $4, it was definately coming home with us. He wanted to make the Chocolate Crispies from the very start mostly because he loves cereal and it was the main ingredient in the recipe. I liked the recipe because it is…

Project Birthday Cake was a Success!
A few weeks ago, I wrote about my attempt to make Xan a crazy birthday cake but wasn’t successful. Between the layered steam cake and this final cake, I had tried making a banana bread (looks damn nice but taste wise failed miserably) and a jelly cheesecake. The cheesecake was a success but of course we realize later Xan hates cheesecake. Wah lau… Neh mind! I go research some more ideas lor. After a few nights of research, finally settled for a Kit Kat Cake. Ah this one, so simple and so fail proof. If I can make it, SO CAN YOU! Talk about risky, I made it the night before his…

Project: Birthday Cake
Xan’s birthday is coming up in less than 2 weeks and I’m planning to bake his cake myself. It may not be a big deal to you but it is to me. So big until I’m breathing, eating, dreaming and seeing pastries all around me. I’ve always wanted to bake his birthday cake myself instead of buying one off the shelf because I feel The Birthday Cake is the highlight of any child’s birthday. I want to be part of that memory for Xan. So vain right? In the last few months, I have come across so many pictures of proud mummies showcasing their versions of The Birthday Cake. *sob*…

Another year has passed and we haven’t killed each other!
22 November marked the day we signed our “til-death-do-us-part-your-money-is-my-money-and-my-money-is-my-money” contract: it was our 6th wedding anniversary. *applause please* For years The Husband insisted our anniversary should fall on 20 July when we held our customary wedding dinner and he said he (strangely, a few others also) thought a wedding is only formalized after the dinner. I said why would we go through the trouble to pick a nice date for the solemnization if the dinner date was going to be more important leh? We weren’t even planning for a wedding dinner back then because we thought sign contract can already, the dinner was such an extravagance and that we wanted no part of it. Luckily, we…

Foodie Friday: Slippery noodles!
It was one of those nights when we were so hungry and too tired to think of where to go and what to eat as long as we get to eat something not too expensive around where we were, within the Far East Square area. Unfortunately, most of the casual eating places were closed (it was only 7pm) and the prawn noodle place was one of the few that was still open and looked quiet + affordable. We decided to give it a try. To be honest, I thought the prawn and pork rib noodles weren’t that great, I’ve had better ones elsewhere. Little boy didn’t seem to mind though…

Let’s go to… Malaysia Boleh! at Jurong Point
The Husband and I had an appointment to have brunch with a friend at Jurong Point recently but the place we wanted to go originally wasn’t open yet. By that time both of us were really starving. Hungry breath kind of hungry if you know what I mean. So! We decided to explore the mall while waiting for our friend to arrive and we came across this odd new (opened on 6 October) place called Malaysia Boleh! If you ask me, the food quality and prices didn’t invoke the same kind of enthusiasm as the ‘!’ the owners had happily stamped onto the name. Thankfully it was not crowded so…

Foodie Friday: Double Chocolate Chunk Cookie (premix lah)
A few months ago, I bought some cookie mix with full intention to let Xan try his hands on the process of making one of his favourite snacks. I would have made them from scratch but who am I kidding? I’m horrible at measuring ingredients even with a digital scale and an assortment of measuring tools in the kitchen drawers. Instant cookie mixes are my party lifesavers and during the 20 mins of  mixing and sweating, I felt almost marthastewarty. Note that I said “months” because as usual, I procrastinated until 1 day before the package was due to expire. When I told Xan I was going to make some cookies that…
